Kate Gasienica, Analyst
Kate has a broad range of advocacy and fundraising experience in the United States and abroad with issues including public urban education, affordable housing, workers rights, refugee resettlement and services for the developmentally disabled. She began advocating on an international scale in Ecuador as a Habitat for Humanity Global Village site leader and then in Accra, Ghana while conducting ethnographic field research on the effect of Art Therapy at an orphanage through the School for International Training.
As a Teach for America corps member, Kate was a founding teacher at two Los Angeles charter schools under the management of Partnership for Uplifting Communities. She taught 6th and 7th grade science for two years, and interned for Urban Prep Charter Academy for Young Men in Chicago.
Based in Los Angeles, Kate continues her commitment to achieving educational equity in our nations public school system through her commitment as a Teach for America alumni and volunteering to fundraise for local Los Angeles charter schools. Kate holds a BS in Human Development and Psychological Services and African American Studies from Northwestern University's School of Education and Social Policy, and a Masters in Secondary Education from Loyola Marymount University. She speaks conversational Spanish.
